From Session to Sweatshirt: the story behind my merch
Between Sessions: reflections and real talk from a therapist who believes in soft strength
When people think of therapy, they probably imagine a quiet office, maybe a clipboard or a box of tissues (which isn’t wrong!) but what they don’t usually think of is a hoodie, a laptop sticker, or a tote bag with a meaningful phrase on it. That’s why I created a merch store as part of my counseling practice.
Mental health deserves to be seen, talked about, and even celebrated—not hidden or whispered about. Having a line of products that reflect my practice’s values and mission helps bring therapy out into the open. When someone wears a shirt with a motivational mental health quote or sips from a mug with my logo, it invites curiosity, reflection, and connection. This is normalizing therapy, one hoodie at a time.
It’s a small but meaningful way to reduce stigma. It sends the message: therapy isn’t something to be ashamed of—it’s something to honor. I’m all about therapy, but wearable.
Currently I have my official logo, a simplified version of the Tiger Claw, and the Japanese kanji for Satori available on products. The name Satori Counseling was birthed out of intentionality. Satori is a Japanese Zen term that describes a moment of insight and clarity. It represents those powerful moments of transformation that come through healing, growth, and self-awareness. That name holds deep meaning for me—and it shapes everything I do. The Tiger Claw flower—bold, striking, and rooted in resilience—embodies the spirit of transformation that guides my clinical work. I chose this flower for my logo because it symbolizes fierce growth, strength through adversity, and beauty born from challenge.
My hope is that featuring these symbols on my merch will carry their messages beyond the therapy room—a visual reminder that healing is powerful, and that strength and softness can coexist. My logo, my coined phrases, and any products I offer are all extensions of the meaning. They’re designed to reflect the emotional depth, resilience, and transformation that I see in my clients every day (which is the coolest part of my job). When someone wears or shares one of these pieces, they’re carrying a little bit of that journey with them—and maybe even sparking something in someone else.
I want to be clear, merch is not simply about trying to sell things. This merch is about much more than branding—it’s about belonging. Whether you’re a client, an advocate for mental health, or someone navigating your own healing, these items are meant to resonate, inspire, and connect. So yes, I’m a therapist with a merch store. And I’m proud of that. I’m excited and looking forward to sharing new creations with you. Because therapy isn’t just something that happens in a session—it’s a mindset, a movement, and a message worth wearing.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
